What this is
Phone Chat is a supported skill that allows you to communicate with your TutorClaw assistant directly from your mobile device. Instead of sitting at your computer or opening a browser dashboard, you send messages in Telegram, and your local assistant replies.
Why it matters
This allows you to learn and run checks on the go. To maintain absolute security, the connection runs through a secure local bridge directly linked to your phone.
What You Need Before Starting
- A working TutorClaw installation on your computer.
- A Telegram account and the Telegram app installed on your phone.
- An active internet connection on both your computer and your phone.
How Telegram and @BotFather Fit In
Telegram allows users to create "bots"—automated accounts for messages. We use Telegram's official bot creator, @BotFather, to generate a new private bot for your assistant. @BotFather provides a unique string of characters called a Bot Token.
Critical Safety Warning
Keep your bot token private. Access should be limited to your allowed Telegram user ID. Do not share your private bot publicly.
Anyone who obtains your Bot Token can access your running TutorClaw assistant. Never share your Bot Token in public screenshots, forums, or files.
Allowed User ID Whitelist
To protect your privacy and computer, TutorClaw registers your unique, numeric Telegram User ID during setup. If anyone else attempts to message your bot, TutorClaw checks their User ID, rejects the message, and ignores them completely. This ensures your bot is not shared publicly and only responds to you.
How to Run Setup
1. Open the TutorClaw folder on your computer.
2. Locate the file named Start Phone Chat.bat and double-click it.
3. Follow the friendly setup wizard, paste your Bot Token, and send a message to your bot on your phone to complete authentication.
Use Chat as the Lab
Once setup is complete, go to your phone chat "lab" or the main browser chat window and try asking:
How do I connect my phone securely?Explain Telegram safety settings.
